Arena
The Arena is player versus player, and it is asynchronous: you attack, but you are never attacked live. At the moment of an attack, the server builds a full-health snapshot of the defender's current gear, stats, active Battle Art and eligible ammunition. Nobody has to be online at the same time, but the result still changes both players' Honor and win/loss records.
It opens at level 5. An attack costs 1 arena ticket. You receive 15 tickets each day and can bank up to 45 of them, so a weekend's worth of duels can be fought in one evening instead of one every half hour. See Energy for the three pools side by side.
Tiers
Every gladiator from level 5 belongs to exactly one tier. The tier decides both who appears on your challenge list and which ladder you are ranked in.
| Tier | Levels |
|---|---|
| Tiro | 5–9 |
| Gregarius | 10–19 |
| Veteranus | 20–29 |
| Primus | 30–39 |
| Palus | 40–50 |
| Triumphator | 51–58 |
| Invictus | 59–65 |
The tier is a lock, not a preference: you fight inside your own band and nowhere else. That is why a thin tier stays thin — if there are only three gladiators in your band, your list is short. A short list is the price of never being handed a fight you cannot win.
On top of the tier there is a hard level window of 10 levels. It does not bite while the tier is a lock — the widest band is exactly that many levels wide — but it is the backstop that keeps a level 39 from ever being handed a level 20.
Who appears on your list
The level band above stays fixed through the whole search. The game widens only the Honor range until it has enough candidates:
| Step | Level band | Honor range |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Unchanged | ±150 |
| 2 | Unchanged | ±400 |
| 3 | Unchanged | ±1000 |
| 4 | Unchanged | any |
The level limits are never abandoned. If even the last step cannot find enough opponents inside your band, the list simply stays short — there is no global fallback that would quietly hand you someone twenty levels away.
Honor
Honor is an Elo rating. Everyone starts at 1200 and it
never falls below 800. A duel moves
K × (result − expected) points with K = 32, and it is
zero-sum: the winner gains exactly what the loser drops.
The consequence is worth understanding before you grind: beating someone far below you is worth almost nothing, while losing to them costs nearly the full 32. At a gap of about 400 points a win pays around +3 and a loss costs around −29. That asymmetry is what makes Honor a rating rather than a counter — and it is also why the ladder is squeezed back together every season (see Seasons).
What a duel pays
| Reward | Formula | Example vs level 20 |
|---|---|---|
| Experience (win) | 15 + 3 × defender level |
75 |
| Experience (loss) | 5 |
5 |
| Gold minted † | 10 + 2 × defender level |
50 |
| Gold taken † | min(5% of their purse, 25 × defender level) |
at most 500 |
| Laurels † | 8 + 1 × defender level |
28 |
† These three are multiplied by the repeat falloff below. Experience and Honor are not.
A loss costs you nothing but the attempt: no gold leaves your purse, and the defender never loses experience either — only the Honor moves, and it moves both ways. Laurels are the arena's own currency; they buy nothing but arena rewards, at the House of Laurels.
You cannot farm one opponent
Repeat attacks on the same defender within 24 hours pay full, then half, then a quarter, then nothing. That falloff covers gold and Laurels; experience and Honor are left alone, because Honor already limits itself — beating the same weaker opponent repeatedly is worth nearly nothing by construction.
There are two hard caps in the same window, and they protect the person on the receiving end: a defender can be attacked at most 15 times in 24 hours in total, and at most 3 times by any one attacker.
Your defence
There is no separate defence loadout to set. Each incoming challenge reads the gear you currently have equipped, your current trained stats and active Battle Art, plus the best eligible ammunition you own without consuming the defender's stack. An offline loss can lower your Honor and add a loss to your record; an offline win can raise both.
Arena standings are live on the Leaderboards, and the tier ladder resets on the schedule described under Seasons — where the 3 reward bands are listed in full.
